(For instructions in brief, see here)

With Vertigo, the newly crowned Greatest Film of All Time, appearing on just 191 of 846 submitted ballots for the recent Sight & Sound film poll, I’ve found myself wondering just what the other 655 people thought of it. Would it have made their top 20s, 50s, 100s? Do they even admire it at all? This poll seeks to address that question.

Your first task is to take these 100 films (listed below) – the top 100 from the recent Sight & Sound greatest films poll – and re-rank them preferentially. Your first choice film, should you rank all of them, will receive 100 points; your second choice will receive 99 points, and so on. Should you only rank 75 films, your first choice film will receive just 75 points. If you are unable to separate certain films, ties will be allowed, with the combined points split between the tied films.

Your second task is to draw up an additional list of up to a hundred alternative titles that you feel are as worthy of canonisation as the official 100. These can be ordered any way that you choose, though preferential ordering will not make any difference to the final tallying.

You have until the end of the year to prepare your ballot. Make clear how you wish your name to appear, and include any links, notes, introductions, etc. that you think appropriate.  The ballots that I receive would ideally look something like this. See also my former polls here, here, and here for further examples. Finished ballots should be sent to iain.stott90@googlemail.com

I would also be very much obliged to anyone who provided me with details of any suitable friends or colleagues that you feel would be willing to participate.

A spreadsheet of the 100 films is available on request.

I intend to collate and publish the results here in January of next year.

I've processed the first ballot, which came from the very quick off the mark Dane Benko, who has gone way above and beyond the call of duty with this thoughtful effort. Of course, the design of the site has yet to be finalised, but his ballot should end up looking something like this.

NOTE: Fassbinder's Fear Eats the Soul appears in joint 93rd position in the top 100 on the BFI website. However, it did not appear in the list printed in the September issue of the magazine. And so, it does not appear below, as I drew up this list before the results were published online. Although, it's perhaps worked out for the better anyway, as there would have been 101 titles (including ties) in the top 100, complicating matters somewhat.
